Queen of Thrones
Not to be confused with the popular HBO TV series, Queen of Thrones leans heavily on the chess aesthetic for its presentation with its reels filled with chess pieces on red and white backgrounds. To win, you’ll need to land symbols in a row on the win lie to get a cash prize. Chess fanatics will be happy to know there are elements of the classic game in this slot, with two of the central features based entirely on its rules.
The visual techniques on display are a delight to behold with chess pieces being well animated and audio quality reminiscent of a blockbuster movie theme that builds during the feature rounds.
About the developer
A fairly young developer, Argentinian casino slot company Leander Games produces high quality games that can run on browser technology and downloadable options. They are known for their interesting in-reel features and games based on other well-known gambling games such as Reely Poker and Reely Roulette with a poker side-bet and interesting bonus rounds.
About the game
The fundamentals of Queen of Thrones are similar to many other slots on the market with 5 reels and three symbols on each reel. There are 30 fixed win lines and an auto play option that can play uninterrupted for up to 25 spins.
The unique gameplay starts to emerge with the wild symbols. These feature three different chess pieces and will substitute for every other symbol apart from the bonus symbols. If you land five of these in a row you can walk away triumphant with 2,500x your coin amount. The rank of the chess piece (Knight, King, Queen etc.) dictates your win amount. The King is naturally the most valuable with pawn being the least.
There are three features available on this slot, two of which are activated using a scatter symbol while the other is activated by the centre square of the slot. ‘The Throne’ feature is activated when the Queen symbol appears on the centre square. The Queen will then capture all the adjacent symbols and they will become wild. The more wilds there are, the more wins the player will get.
The free spins round will give the player either 10, 15 or 30 free spins dependent on how many times you land the ‘free spins’ scatter symbol. At the start of the round the player will be assigned ‘white’ or ‘black’. If the player’s colour lands on the centre position on reel 3 they will capture other pieces on the slot turning them wild. Each chess piece follows the rules of the real game when capturing other pieces e.g. the bishop capturing diagonally.
The ‘Big Capture’ bonus round is activated when the player lands the correct symbol on reels 1, 3 and 5. This will result in a chessboard of 25 squares appearing, with all the 16 black chess pieces hidden from view. Every black piece uncovered wins the player a prize but every ‘X’ wins nothing. There are also ‘extra picks’ hidden amongst the black pieces that will extend the round if found.
Queen of Thrones can deceive you initially with its simple layout, however the combination of traditional slot ideas combined with those of a Chess Game makes for some truly unique gameplay. The rousing cinematic scores that accompany the action, striking visuals and mix of features make this a must play slot for Chess fanatics and newbies alike.
