About the game

In Texas Hold Em you play with 52 cards, and there are a few rounds you go through before you show your hand. These are the flop, the turn and the river.

The hands

There are a lot of different combinations you can play in your hand, depending on the cards that you have:

  • Royal flush: 5 cards from the same suit from 10 to ace
  • Straight flush: 5 cards from the same suit (any, as long as they are consecutive)
  • Four of a kind: 4 cards of the same value
  • Full house: 2 cards of the same value, along with 3 cards of the same value
  • Flush: 5 cards from the same suit
  • Straight: 5 consecutive cards from different suits
  • Three of a kind: three cards of the same value
  • Two pairs: two sets of pairs
  • Pair: one pair

How to play

So now you know what you can play - now it’s time to learn how to play. If you’ve only ever seen Texas Hold Em in the movies then you’ll know you’re playing on a big green table with a bunch of chips – you use these chips to place your bets. They all have different values.

So to play in this online game, just place your bet on the ‘ante’ circle, and click deal. This will deal you and the bank two cards each. It’s hard to tell what else you’ll get in the rounds, but if you’re really not feeling your hand then you can flop (this will lose you your bet) or you can call (meaning you’ll play on).

Three cards will then be dealt in the middle of the ‘table’, for both you and the bank to see. This is called the flop. You can both use these cards to complete your hand at the end of the game.

Once you’ve passed the flop you’ll be on to the turn – you can bet again if you’re feeling lucky, or you can check (which means to carry on playing without betting). Another card will then be added to the three in the flop.

Now you’re on to the river, much like the turn, you can either bet again or you can check – this will carry on until someone decides not to bet anymore, and a fifth card will be added to the flop.

Now you get to see who has the best hand – you or the banker. This will be figured out by the two cards in your hand, and the five cards in the flop.

And there you have it – you’re a Texas Hold Em pro now! That’s how you play a round, no more saying you can’t play poker.
